Beihai overview

When a city is famous for fried sand worms and pig's feet noodle soup how could it not be a must see for anyone visiting China? Beihai has been a tourist destination since the early 80s but is still visited mostly by people who live in China. Because of its proximity to the sea Beihai has the dubious honor of being China's fastest growing city in a country where a city of 1.5 million is still considered a village. Beihai's rapid development has led to it having a diverse mixture of both Chinese and Western architecture and a bevy of western style beach resorts, restaurants, and bars are beginning to dapple the coast. The city has embraced modern development which means, like most of the rest of China, there is a problem with air pollution, but not to fear, it still isn't as bad as the larger cities.
