Chengdu overview

Like many cities in China, Chengdu is a fair mash-up of both ancient and modern cultures. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan so if you are traveling in Western China it is likely that you will pay it a visit. Almost every city in China is famous for something (at least to the people who have never been anywhere else) and Chengdu is no exception, as it is known for several types of spicy cuisine, particularly Mapo doufu. The other thing that Chengdu is known for is being a party city, as it has more tea houses and bars than just about any city in China, including Shanghai, which is more than double the size. Chengdu might be the one place in the world where the words "Chinese" and "Laid Back" are used in the same sentence, but it is an accurate description, which makes Chengdu a great place to visit.
