Xining overview

The city of Xining is located in the far west of China and is often referred to as the gateway to Tibet. Although not a common tourist destination, many travellers who come to this generally fall in love with the beautiful scenery and colourful nightlife. The city itself is home to a variety of tourist attractions, such as temples, monasteries, and yes, you guessed it, more temples. The most famous being the North Mountain Temple, which is built on the side of a mountain and offers stunning views of the city. Accommodation in Xining can be found practically everywhere, with a range of mostly budget choices available, but there is only one five-star hotel for those who like to splurge. Flights operate to Xining daily from Beijing and Shanghai and a number of other cities in China.
